Sanctum 3D

Shot in 3D with the same cameras used in Avatar…produced by the master of 3D himself, James Cameron. An underwater cave diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world. Master diver Frank McGuire and his team have explored the South Pacific’s Esa-ala Caves for months. But when his exit is cut off in a flash flood, Franks’s team-including his 17-year-old son Josh and financier Carl Hurley are forced to radically alter their plans in order to survive. Dwindling supplies, challenged by the over-bearing forces of nature…they are confronted with the unavoidable question…can they survive, or will they be trapped underwater forever? In 3D, A JAMES CAMERON produced 3D FILM. My expectations for this film are high. I’ll report more after I see the film on Friday. /SDI

Well it’s got the James Cameron branding/produced by attached to it… but it does not quite live up to the standards of a James Cameron directed film. Technical merits I give them an A plus. A very difficult underwater shoot. Just getting the actors and underwater stunt divers from point A to point B was I’m sure a major task. I loved the flash flood in the cave, great action. The movie started off a bit slow…the action did pick up after 20 or so minutes in. The father son relationship was a bit forced in the opening act. The relationship and the dynamics between the two central characters father and son played well mid-way and through the end of the film. I enjoyed the film…but I was suprised…Saturday night opening weekend and the theater was only at 25% capacity.
